Most women prefer to ignore the need for a visit to the gynecologist, and it is in vain. Ideally, this specialist should be visited at least twice a year, if we are talking about a routine inspection. Is it possible to go to the gynecologist with the monthly? It should be noted that the answer to this question is ambiguous, and depends on a number of third-party factors.

What is a gynecological examination

Many representatives of the beautiful half of humanity hardly understand that what is the specialty of a gynecologist, and why this procedure exists in general. Gynecological examination is an extremely important event that allows you to monitor the current state of health of the genital organs, including internal ones, to diagnose various diseases in the early stages of development, to carry out many manipulations, including, for the installation of mechanical contraceptives.

Modern gynecology has a high level of development. For the first time, a visit to a specialized physician should occur as early as adolescence, preferably when the first periods come. It should be noted that menopause does not have any effect on the need for regular gynecological examination. On the contrary, in view of the age-related changes, the health of the reproductive system, which no longer performs its main function, must be monitored particularly carefully.

Inspection of virgins is completely different than girls who have sex. It is on the basis of this that the gynecologist asks the appropriate question before the start of the reception. In this case, the doctor feels the genitals by inserting a finger into the rectum. If no abnormalities are noticed, the inspection ends.

As for women who have already had sexual relationships, a vaginal examination is used here, using various tools, such as a mirror. If visual observation yielded nothing, but something bothers the patient anyway, a smear of vaginal discharge is taken for analysis. Blood and urine tests may also be given. Ultrasound will also provide much useful information.

A similar inspection is carried out in the case of women giving birth. The only difference is that a large mirror is used.

A gynecological examination allows you to determine the state of the uterus and vagina, the current position of the internal genital organs (of the same uterus, fallopian tubes, ovaries), to study the nature of the secretions, their consistency, smell, color and quantity. Based on these data, a competent doctor in some cases is able to make the correct diagnosis.

The ideal option to visit a gynecologist is the third day after the end of menstruation. However, it is not always possible to visit the doctor during this period. Therefore, taking a gynecologist during menstruation is not uncommon, although such a solution is far from optimal.

Why it is not recommended to visit a gynecologist during critical days

You need to understand that any woman will not feel too comfortable in the doctor's office when she has her periods. This causes not only physical, but also moral discomfort. In addition, menstruation and interferes with the doctor. In general, the factors causing not optimal visit to the gynecologist during this period, can be divided into two groups:

Such an inspection has several limitations, as it can provoke various health problems:

  • during menstruation, the lumen of the cervix is significantly increased - this is necessary in order to provide the uterus with a high-quality cleansing of blood secretions, including, inter alia, the remains of exfoliated endometrium - the mucous membrane of the organ. Expansion significantly increases the risk of infection of the uterus, which can occur as a result of contact with poorly disinfected instruments,
  • the above factor causes too high sensitivity of the uterus. Because of this, it is very easy to damage the tools used. As a consequence - increased bleeding,
  • critical days reduce pain threshold. Even a careful and gentle inspection can lead to severe pain, which will bring a lot of discomfort to a woman.

Even this small list is enough to think well before a visit to the gynecologist during the period.

Menstruation delivers certain inconveniences for the doctor:

  • It is impossible to conduct a full visual inspection of the genitals. A huge amount of blood inside the vagina will in every way prevent it. The very meaning of visiting a gynecological office is lost. This is especially the case when critical days are in full swing,
  • the inability to obtain a detailed picture of the general condition of the female body, based on the results of blood or urine tests. The fact is that menstruation has the strongest effect on the body, including the blood, causing a temporary change in its chemical composition. Consequently, the data obtained will be either distorted, or incomplete, or generally incorrect. It is worth noting that the urine analysis, in principle, can be carried out. But this requires inserting a special catheter into the vagina. The procedure is complex and may be accompanied by pain. To her resort only in the most extreme cases,
  • in view of the fact that the menstrual blood stains inside the vagina and uterus all in a red tint, it will be practically impossible for a specialist to evaluate the color, smell and consistency of ordinary vaginal secretions. You can not make a smear to determine the presence of any infection or assess the state of the local microflora - the analysis will still be wrong, due to the presence of blood,
  • during menstruation, the uterus changes its position due to the corresponding physiological requirements of the body. Therefore, the doctor will not be able to determine the correctness of the position of the internal genital organs, because they will move for a while.

When to go to the gynecologist during menstruation

Sometimes there are situations when visiting a gynecological office becomes a priority, regardless of whether they go monthly or not. This is especially true when menstruation is accompanied by obvious pathological processes, namely:

  • profuse bleeding, mixed with lumpy discharge,
  • severe and persistent lower abdominal pain,
  • prolonged periods,
  • increase in body temperature, both before subfebrile and heat,
  • unusual color of menstrual flow,
  • the appearance of a characteristic fetid odor,
  • sensation of itching and burning in the genital area,
  • painful sensations in the mammary glands.

All of the above problems indicate that menstruation is pathological, therefore, you must immediately undergo an appropriate examination by a gynecologist. Otherwise, the present disease can develop further, which is why it will be very difficult to cope with it later.

If there is an emergency, the discomfort for the woman and the specialist himself must be forgotten. Given the fact that a full examination is still impossible, for the reasons described above, the task of the gynecologist is to determine the nature of the pathological secretions, painful sensations and other symptoms that indicate the presence of problems. To do this, the doctor will visually inspect the genitals and direct it to a special study, for example, an ultrasound scan.

Women who have recently given birth should also not be embarrassed by their critical days if they are characterized by the presence of a number of problems. These traditionally include hardening of the breast, a significant increase in bleeding, too long periods, and sharp pain in the abdomen.

As a rule, the presence of menstruation will not be a significant obstacle to the formulation of the correct diagnosis and the appointment of an effective treatment.

Proper preparation for visiting the gynecological office

A gynecologist is a specialist who treats a specific area of the female body. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that you carefully prepare for your visit. This is necessary not only to feel as confident as possible, but also to provide the doctor with optimal conditions for the examination, because it directly determines how well it will be performed, and whether it will be possible to obtain sufficient data on its basis for a correct diagnosis.

Preparing for a visit to the gynecological clinic consists of several stages, some of which are the same for women who have monthly periods and those who have already completed them. First of all, you need to prepare psychologically. It is imperative that moral training is required, with convincing oneself about the usualness of the upcoming procedure, since the gynecologist is the same doctor as everyone else. It is worth noting that it is very difficult to stabilize your psychological state during the period of critical days, which is due to the continuing hormonal disruption.

A day before the inspection is strongly recommended not to have sex. This applies not only when there are no periods, but also when they are, because many couples consider this period as the best protection against unwanted pregnancy. The essence of the problem lies in the fact that in the vagina (assuming no use of condoms) will remain a small amount of seminal fluid. This is an alien microflora, therefore, it is guaranteed to distort the results of smear tests from the vagina.

As for the natural microflora of a woman, it can be disturbed if antibiotics and antifungal drugs are taken. If possible, you should wait about 10-14 days after the end of this therapy, and after that you should visit the gynecological office.

Before his visit, it is recommended to carry out the usual hygienic measures. Be sure to wear clean clothes - respect yourself and the work of a gynecologist. To avoid discomfort during the examination, as well as embarrassment, the bladder should be emptied. The same applies to the intestines, especially if there are monthly. In this case, the doctor can perform a palpation of the internal genital organs through the rectum.

Can I go to the gynecologist during menstruation? This is not recommended because it complicates the work of the doctor, but when the need arises it seems possible. The main thing here - do not be shy. Women's health is very fragile and needs to be monitored regularly.
